With so many different skin types, it can be difficult to know which you have and how to look after it best. Knowing if you have dry, oily, combination, or normal skin is crucial when putting together the perfect products and routine for the best skin results.
But ‘what skin type do I have?’ you ask and ‘how do I tailor a skincare routine around it?’
Keep reading as we answer your questions and explain how to know your skin type to promote your healthiest skin yet.
How to know your skin type
Before asking ‘what is my skin type?’, you should start by working out how to know your skin type.
There are two tests you can carry out to be sure, and both can easily be done at home in 30 minutes!
Test 1 – Watch your skin
The first way to know what skin type you have is to sit in front of a mirror after cleansing and watch your face to see how it reacts.
Wash your face, gently patting dry, then grab a mirror and get watching!
If your skin starts to look:
- Shiny all over: you have oily skin
- Flaky or tight all over: you have dry skin
- Shiny only in your T-Zone: you have combination skin
- Hydrated and healthy: you have normal skin
Test 2 – Use blotting sheets
Another easy way to check your skin type is by using blotting sheets. After cleansing, leave skin for 30 minutes before gently pressing a blotting sheet over your face. Hold it up to the light to see if there’s any oil.
If there’s:
- Lots of oil: you have oily skin
- No oil: you have dry skin
- Only oil from your T-Zone: you have combination skin
- Minimal oil: you have normal skin
What is my skin type and how do I care for it?
Now that the tests have helped you know your skin type, its needs, and how it reacts to products, you can make informed decisions about your skincare routine.
Oily skin
If your skin is shiny after cleansing or produces lots of oil on a blotting sheet, you most likely have oily skin.
It’s important to use skin products for oily skin that help to get rid of unwanted oils and balance natural sebum levels. Ingredients such as Green Tea, Witch Hazel and Bamboo Charcoal can help to reduce excessive oil production for a more balanced complexion.
We recommend using our Anti-Pollution Facial Mask and Pore Refining Facial Scrub. The mask uses Bamboo Charcoal to help purify the skin and absorb toxins, while the scrub uses Jojoba to gently exfoliate the skin, fight shine and remove excess oil.
