As the skin around our eyes is thin, delicate and sensitive, it’s important to know how to apply eye cream correctly to protect and rejuvenate the area. Keep reading as we explain where to apply eye cream, what it does, and the best eye cream for a brighter, more youthful look.
What does eye cream do?
Eye creams gently hydrate, nourish and protect the delicate eye area. They use moisturising ingredients to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, dark circles and unwanted puffiness for brighter-looking glow. It softens the skin to avoid damage and makes for easier makeup application.
When to apply eye cream
Eye cream should be applied once a day, morning or night. If applying in the morning, we recommend using a cream with a lightweight formula so it feels comfortable throughout the day.
If you’d rather apply before bed, choose a thicker cream that can be absorbed into your skin while you sleep.
If your eye area is extra dry, apply a cream both morning and night to remove unwanted dead skin for a smoother feel.
Where to apply eye cream
Starting with the undereye area, the cream should be applied from the inner corner to the outer corner. Once you reach the outer corner, work upwards and apply any leftover product next to the eye.
How to apply eye cream
Now you know what it is, it’s time to find out how to apply eye cream for the best results.
Step 1: Apply to ring finger
Squeeze a pea-sized amount of product onto the tip of your finger and get ready to apply.
With the eye area being as delicate as it is, it’s important to use your ring finger to gently apply as it naturally has the lightest touch.
Step 2: Gently apply to undereye
Starting at the inner corner, gently dab small dots to the undereye area. Gradually work your way across to the outer corner, pulling any leftover product upwards, next to the eye.
Use your ring finger to delicately tap the product in a circular motion until the cream is fully absorbed.
Step 3: Let it sink in
Before applying makeup or other skincare products, allow 5-10 minutes for the cream to penetrate the skin. This allows all the nutrients and antioxidants to properly absorbed for the best results.
Best eye cream for your skin
Eye creams aren’t one-size-fits-all. Different creams are more suitable for different skin types and goals.
